Why Is Track Tension Important for Excavator Undercarriage Parts?

Image
An excavator can have strong engine performance and a healthy hydraulic system, yet poor track tension can still create expensive undercarriage problems. For operators and fleet owners, track tension is not simply a setting to check when a track looks loose. It directly affects how forces move through the excavator undercarriage parts during digging, travelling and turning. The objective is not to make the track as tight as possible. It is to maintain the tension specified for your particular excavator. What Does Track Tension Control? Track tension determines how much controlled slack is present in the track assembly. The correct amount allows the track chain to move smoothly around the sprocket and idler without excessive movement. If the track is too tight, unnecessary load is placed on components such as excavator undercarriage parts , track links, bushings, rollers and idlers. This can accelerate wear and, over time, increase the likelihood of component failure. Manufact...
