How Much Hydraulic Flow Does an Excavator Need for a Rock Breaker?

  Hydraulic rock breakers are frequently selected according to excavator operating weight. A 20-ton excavator is paired with a breaker designed for the same machine class, and the attachment is expected to deliver optimum breaking performance. While carrier weight is an important selection parameter, it does not determine whether the breaker will operate efficiently. The performance of a rock breaker excavator depends primarily on the hydraulic energy supplied by the carrier machine. That energy is governed by two operating parameters—hydraulic flow (L/min) and operating pressure (bar). Both must remain within the breaker's specified operating range. If either parameter falls outside the recommended limits, impact energy, strike frequency and component life are affected long before the excavator reaches its lifting capacity.
